Nebraska is hostile to women who menstruate. To be perfectly honest, we suggest not living here, let alone any forced birth state, governed by fetal supremacists.
That said, if you are currently stuck living in Nebraska, we have abortion and reproductive health resources for you. We will update this post as laws change.
Nebraska Abortion Law
Current law allows for abortion in Nebraska up to 12 weeks of pregnancy, so stock up on pee sticks, ladies. You’re going to need them in case of ectopic pregnancy, birth control failure, rape, and making decisions about your own body and sex life.
There are “exceptions” in cases of medical emergencies, rape and incest. However, this places a burden of proof upon us and, let’s be real: lawmakers in Nebraska don’t trust women. So even if we feel comfortable discussing sexual assault, who is going to believe us?
You can still find abortion providers and reproductive health care in Nebraska, which brings us to our next point – taking action.
What You Can Do
You might feel helpless right now, but you’re not. First and foremost, if you are pregnant and seeking care, visit the link above and get the help you need. If you are trying to plan for the future – whether for yourself, daughters, granddaughters, friends, and the freedom of women to make their own decisions about their own bodies – here are some tips:
Find a New Healthcare Provider
If you feel you can trust your current women’s health provider, great! If you’re not so sure, it’s time to shop around and find a provider who actually cares about women and our reproductive freedom. Ask women who have or will participate in resisting this ban for recommendations.
Avoid any healthcare provider who supported Initiative 434. They are not looking out for your best interests (please note the propaganda of the supposed 900 healthcare professionals linked here is blurry AF and illegible).
Providers to avoid include those who made videos on behalf of Initiative 434:
- Catherine Brooks, D.O. (neonatal pediatrician), Lincoln
- Angelina Giles, DNP, APRN (nurse practitioner), Omaha
- Carolyn Manhart, MD (physician), Omaha
Look at the healthcare providers who supported Initiative 439. These are the providers who stood by Initiative 439 and they are going to provide you the care you need… if they can. And if they can’t, they may be able to guide you in the right direction.
In fact, consider ditching anyone in your life who supported Initiative 434. They already have blood on their hands. You don’t have to be friendly to the people who hate you.
Make a Plan
What if you or someone you care about needs an abortion after 12 weeks? Know where you can go. Iowa and South Dakota are even more hostile to women and women’s healthcare than Nebraska. Fortunately, there are states you can travel to for access to complete reproductive care. You can cross the border into states where bans either do not exist or the time for receiving an abortion is expanded past 12 weeks. However, each state has their own laws as follows:
Colorado – abortion is legal!
Kansas – allows abortion up to 21 weeks, 6 days or less, and after with specific restrictions
Missouri – abortion is currently banned in Missouri, but voters recently overturned the ban! So stay tuned and watch how the law progresses there.

Preventative Care
Do you want to have preventative measures on hand for a worst-case scenario? Order Plan C and keep it handy, but be sure to read the legal disclaimers.
Do not track your cycles digitally in any way, shape or form. Paper planners are your friends, darlings, and your menstrual cycles are not the government’s business.
Fight to End the Ban
This fight isn’t over yet. As long as women have fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers did, we have to keep on moving forward to reclaim those rights. Protect Our Rights is the best starting point to get involved.
If you have resources to add, let us know!
This is the first in a series of posts to support our fellow Nebraskans through the red regime.
