Legislative District 2 encompasses Cass County and part of Lancaster County. The outgoing senator is Robert Clements.
Dean Helmick
Record – None yet. He was born in Montana and claims to have served in the Air Force for 42 years. However was retired in 2004 (or at least by 2012), but claims on his campaign’s Facebook page to have retired in 2024. He refers to working as a civilian on base as “service.”
He is endorsed by the Cass County GOP (known for their alt-right, anti-freedom, white nationalist rhetoric), and Cass County Sheriff Robert Sorenson (concerning given Sheriff Sorenson’s willingness to sell out voters on the medical marijuana issue and his membership in the fascist organization, Tactical 88), and other right-wingers doing their party in Cass County to contribute to Nebraska’s brain-drain.
Platform – He has promised to be just like Robert Clements, the outgoing legislator. His platform includes the MAGA culture war standards, such as “protecting” women and fetuses, and fighting illegal immigration.
Jayden Speed
Record – None yet. He is a 5th-generation Nebraska, and led the successful recall campaign against a book banner in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. He served as Conestoga Junior-Senior High School’s first student school board member and student body president in his junior and senior years, and is pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree.
Our only concern? He’s young, but that also means he has energy, clarity, and a vested interest in the outcomes of legislative sessions for all Nebraskans. He currently interns with the Nebraska Association of Trial Attorneys. Speed will graduate next spring and remain in Nebraska to continue serving his community.
Platform – His platform is extensive and practical, encompassing fiscal concerns, infrastructure, rural development, and environmental protections.
When asked to provide insight into his platform, his answers are straightforward and detailed. Speed has an impressive depth of knowledge about how the legislature works and an understanding of the needs of the people in the district.
