Despite leading fascists like governor Jim Pillen, Kathleen Kauth, and every Republican in the Nebraska legislature going out of their way to harm children, women, cancer patients and those with chronic illness, and low-income tenants – to try to deprive them of their rights – they can’t stop you from fighting back.
These people who claim to be “Christian,” who claim to care about Nebraskans, don’t deserve your respect or trust, because they’re lying to each and every one of you.
It’s understandable that many people think their only recourse is to leave the state that Pillen has poisoned for decades and continues to poison as the face of Nebraska’s religious reich. It’s true that you don’t have a responsibility to Nebraska. You don’t owe this state full of hateful bigots your time, talents, or tax dollars. You only owe it to yourself and the people you care about to continue to fight for the rights of the groups of people Pillen and Kauth are pushing to marginalize more and more each day. The bills they pass don’t change who you are any more than they improve or help everyday Nebraskans. Pillen and anyone who agrees with him doesn’t care about anything of substance.
If you haven’t cut ties with those kinds of people in your life, what are you waiting for? If you know someone who voted for Pillen, Kauth, or any other Republican in the Nebraska legislature, it is past time to cut them from your life like a cancerous growth. Governor Pillen and Kathleen Kauth prey on little white girls and their parents, while leaving 99.9% of Nebraskans to be feasted on by bedbugs, suffer from medical conditions, get beaten up in locker rooms, and have no say in their own reproductive freedom. They are playing a sick game that doesn’t benefit anyone.
So don’t stop being the person you know you are. Please don’t run away because these people don’t deserve you and what you bring to the state. Instead, consider staying and defeating these people, who will only be remembered in history for their legacy of hate; not for doing any good, useful or noble work.
Another thing to remember: their culture war is all smoke and mirrors. The Republican agenda falls apart without it when people see it for what it really is – empowering corporations and making the rest of us nothing more than ox in a yoke who work until we drop dead at it. That’s the America they want. If you dig deeper into the GOP platform, you will see that:
- Their tax cuts are only for the corporations and the wealthy (never for the everyday working Nebraskan)
- Reducing government spending is targeted at programs that benefit those same everyday working people who can’t afford to live on the wages they’re paid by the corporations reaping the tax benefits
- They keep voting to increase the national debt that they claim to want to reduce (do they even understand what the “national debt” is?)
- Reducing regulations on corporations is what allows them to poison the earth, air and water, and screw over working Americans
- Domestic production was outsourced by those same corporations in the first place because they received tax incentives (including from Trump in 2017) to do so
- American laborers want a living wage (which most don’t receive), which is why labor is also outsourced
- Tariffs are passed on to Americans purchasing goods that are imported from those corporations that outsourced production in the first place
- Fossil fuels are not renewable, but most rabid Republicans also go all NIMBY on renewable sources like solar and wind
The GOP platform is pro-corporation – not pro-American and not pro-you, no matter who you are.
The only way to get Americans to buy into their platform is either through the hate directed at minorities, immigrants, women, and the LGBTQIA community – manufactured and perpetuated by culture wars – or to fool them into believing the fiscal policies will somehow benefit them.
So, does leaving Nebraska change that? No. Does staying change that? No.
Prioritize your well-being above all else but also know that we are here for you. We are a fierce community and whether you find greener pastures out of state or stay here in Nebraska, we will continue to fight, protect and advocate for you. We hope you also know that you can do more good here than you can elsewhere. Why? Because it takes as many of us as possible, all over the state, to educate the ignorant, shove the MAGAs back under their rocks, and stomp out the division they’ve been sowing.
Let’s get out there, light it up, burn it down, and rebuild it together.
