Nebraska voters went to the polls and said if it’s broke, don’t fix it.
With some notable exceptions, Nebraskans continued to vote against their own interests and for ballot initiatives that will keep doing the work of pushing young, talented people out of the state.
This came as a surprise to no one, despite the hope that Nebraska might decide to take a serious look at the things that matter – budget, taxing corporations and the rich, brain drain, and rural healthcare, just to name a few – rather than voting in response to fear-mongering.
There are some legislative wins we’re happy to see, but will it be enough to turn this ship around? Or will budget deficit worsen, educated people under the age of 40 continue to flee the state, and the next generation to inherit property sell it off rather than stay?
